Hi I’m Governor Martin O’Malley. Recently, we completed the latest round of reporting required by the federal government for our share of the funding that we received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These reports detail the use of the funds invested through our state so far, and they offer a level of transparency that President Obama promised the American people, and that our Administration is proud to have offered in everything we do for the last three years. A summary of report is now available here.
We’re proud to report that 19,958 jobs have been created or saved thanks to the quick action of President Obama and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
We’ve invested in important infrastructure projects, including public school construction, water and wastewater projects, and highway improvements. We’ve expanded our weatherization programs, creating green jobs in every corner of our state. And we’ve used these funds to provide vulnerable citizens the healthcare they need. Teachers, police officers, contractors, highway workers – literally thousands of our fellow Marylanders are employed today thanks to the Recovery Act.
And now, for the second year in a row, we’ve received the top ranking in the nation for our innovative use of online tools that allow you to monitor and track every penny spent from the Recovery act in your community.
Together as One Maryland, we acted quickly to invest the funds from the federal Recovery Act and put people back to work throughout our State. In future reporting periods, we’ll continue to update these figures right here on this website – recovery.maryland.gov.
Thanks a lot.
